Project Health is a part of the Department of Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW). HPW was established in 1988 to support student health and wellbeing and covers a wide array of health topics to meet student needs. HPW hosts many programs and annual campus events, including Body Appreciation Week, the Rising Tide Tailgates, the Student Health Fair and more.
Health Promotion and Wellness staffs five health educators; four specialize in public health and health education, and one is a registered dietitian. HPW is a great resource for student organizations, classrooms, residence halls and more. Request a presentation from HPW by visiting the Health Promotion and Wellness website.
Project Health was established in Fall 2006 to serve as a leading source of peer health education for the campus community. Peer education is an evidence-based approach in which students are supported by professional staff as they develop knowledge and practical skills and then share that learning with their peers across campus. Through this model, peer educators serve as both role models and trusted sources of information on a wide range of health and wellness topics. Since its founding, Project Health has grown from a small pilot group into a robust network of more than 130 student educators across four branches, each delivering outreach tailored to diverse topics, learning styles and the evolving needs of our campus community.
